Pitt County Detention Officer Fired After Arrest

A Pitt County detention officer has been fired after his arrest on Friday.

Sheriff Neil Elks says Marvin Bunting of Greenville was arrested on charges of felony assault by strangulation, misdemeanor simple assault, and misdemeanor interfering with emergency communications.

He was booked at the Pitt County Detention Center and released after posting a $51,500 secured bond.

The 45-year-old Bunting had been a detention officer since 2007.
