UPDATE: 2 Children, 1 Adult Taken To Hospital Following Highway 43 Accident


Three people were taken to the hospital including two children after an accident Saturday night.

Trooper Tyndall with the Highway Patrol says that it happened around 9:00 on Highway 43. We’re 35-year-old Malik Dixon was driving South on Highway 43 when he went to make a right turn onto Lewis Lane Road. That’s when troopers say 22-year-old Samantha Campbell of Cove City crashed her Chevy Silverado into the back of Dixon's car.

Trooper Tyndall said that one of the children was in serious condition when taken to the hospital. The children were said to be around ages 11 and 7. Trooper Tyndall said that one of the children was in a car seat.

Officials expect to charge Campbell with failure to reduce speed.

Campbell was not taken to the hospital.

The accident is still under investigation.

Rescue squads are at the scene of an accident with two people reportedly pinned in.

Pitt County 911 says that the accident is at 9331 Highway 43 South near Leary Mills Road. Officials say it happened around 9 p.m.

EastCare has been dispatched to the scene.

Ayden EMS and Garnerville Fire, are also on scene as well.

Highway Patrol says they are headed to the scene.
