Governor Beverly Perdue introduced her successor to military installations across the state Friday, including 3 in eastern carolina.

Perdue and governor-elect Pat McCrory made stops at Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and New River Air Station.
The joint visit was billed in part as a sign of unity between the incoming and outgoing governors for North Carolina's large military presence. Mccrory takes office January 5th.

Previous Story

Gov. Beverly Perdue and Gov.-elect Pat McCrory are going to visit North Carolina military bases together this week to build relationships between the incoming governor and installation and community leaders.

Perdue and McCrory's offices confirmed separately Tuesday the two would travel Friday to Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. McCrory told reporters recently the trip was a possibility, particularly in light of potential defense cuts from the "fiscal cliff" in Washington.

Perdue has longstanding military ties, leading the state's lobbying effort against base closings when she was lieutenant governor. Perdue likes to say North Carolina is the nation's most military friendly state.

Perdue defeated McCrory in the 2008 election but didn't seek re-election this year. McCrory was elected last month.
