NEW INFO: Pedestrian Killed On Pitt County Highway Identified

The woman killed on a Pitt County highway this past weekend has been identified.

The Highway Patrol says 36-year-old Lakisha Wynder of Princeville was run over by a vehicle on US 64 Alternate, west of Bethel. Troopers say Wynder was lying in the middle of the road when she was hit.

The accident happened around 1:00 a.m. Sunday. No charges were filed against the driver of the vehicle that hit the woman.

Highway Patrol is investigating after a pedestrian lying in the middle of the road was found dead in Pitt County early Saturday morning.

Troopers say Anita Fenner of Tarboro was driving on US 64 alternate near Porter Road around 1:13 a.m. when she struck a pedestrian lying in the road. The pedestrian was found dead.

Fenner was not injured. The pedestrian has not been identified. Her body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office.

The investigation is ongoing. Troopers do not know at this point what killed the pedestrian.
