NC Highway Patrol says the mother of a 2-year-old was killed in a crash shortly before 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Highway 58 and Highway 123, south of Snow Hill.
Troopers say 23-year-old Tynika Humphrey was killed when the car she was in made a left from Highway 58 onto Highway 123 and into the path of a car traveling North on 58.
Humphrey's 2-year-old son Kaden, and the driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Tierra Lanier of Hookerton, both suffered non life-threatening injuries.
Humphrey's grandmother told us Tynika's death is a shock, and that Kaden still doesn't understand his mother is dead.
This is the second death the Humphrey family family has dealt with in the past several days. Tynika's grandfather passed away four days ago.
Troopers say the driver of the other vehicle, 46-year-old Joseph Howell of Walstonburg, also had non life-threatening injuries.
Lanier is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
