Parents Charged After Two Year Old Found Home Alone

Police have arrested two parents after they found a 2 year old home alone last week.

Morehead City police have charged Lance Corporal Broderick Kincaid and Amber Butler, both 21, with felony child abuse.

Police say they found the toddler alone at Crystal Coast Apartments, after a neighbor called about a screaming child around 8:20 p.m. Thursday.

They found the front door of the apartment partially open and the crying child behind it. All lights in the apartment were off and the child was only wearing a dirty diaper.

Police say it appears the toddler was left in the home unattended for some five hours.

The mother told police she left the child with a babysitter, but police have not been able to reach that babysitter. The father, who is assigned to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing at Cherry Point, told police he left the child alone in the apartment around 4:00 p.m. as the mother was supposed to be on her way home.

Both parents were jailed on $15,000 secured bonds, while Kincaid has since been released. The child was taken into DSS custody.

It happened in the same apartment complex where a week before another woman was charged after police say she burned her boyfriend's son with hot water.
