Pamlico Co. Firefighter Who Died After Rescue From Ocean, Laid To Rest

A local volunteer firefighter at the Grantsboro-Silverhill Fire Department who died 10 days after he was rescued from a rip current in the ocean was laid to rest Saturday.

Larry Sparrow's funeral was at noon Saturday at the New Bern Eastern Missionary Baptist Association Headquarters in Grantsboro.

Sparrow was just 20 years old. He died Sunday July 21st at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern.

Sparrow was the man rescued at Atlantic Beach July 11th. The Atlantic Beach fire chief says the victim was in critical condition when he was transported to the hospital.

A memorial was held Monday night at Pamlico High School.
