POLICE: Getaway Vehicle Leaves Robber Behind When Ayden Officers Respond To Call

Police in the east are investigating a robbery Saturday night.

Ayden Police Chief Barry Stanley says that it happened around 9:50 at 4411 Williams Street.

Stanley says that a 20-year-old and 23-year-old were in a barn at the location, when a masked man walked in with a handgun and demanded money from them.

Through their investigation, Stanley says investigators determined that 2 men were waiting for the robber in an SUV at the south end of Williams Street and drove off without the man when a police officer in the area responded to the scene.

Stanley says that the officer spotted the suspected robber and gave chase on foot out to East Avenue. 6 other officers and a K9 unit responded and continued the search but were unable to locate him.

Witnesses say 2 shots were fired in the area as the suspect was running.

Police say there were no injuries.

The robber is described as being 6’1’’ with dreadlocks and a slender build. The SUV believed to have been involved is described as dark green in color and may have been a GMC Envoy.
