A man who was burned in a fiery car crash Sunday is improving at the Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill.
Terrance Garris of Ayden is now listed in fair condition, according to the hospital.
The 29-year-old was the only person in a car that crashed on Gum Swamp Road in Pitt County late Sunday afternoon.
The Highway Patrol says the man's vehicle was unregistered and that there are indications he was drag racing a car.
Several Good Samaritans stopped and freed Garris from the wreckage.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
State troopers say an Ayden man is in critical condition at the Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill after a fiery weekend crash.

The Highway Patrol says the man's vehicle was unregistered and that there are indications Garris was drag racing a car.
Several Good Samaritans, including Linnette Miles, stopped and freed Garris from the wreckage.
"The guy that was in the car, his head was actually pinned up under the car," said Miles.
The woman and her sister from Maryland just happened to be driving by and saw the smoke. "It took so much to get him out and another guy from across the street came over and tried to help him at that time. I backed up and let them do their thing," said Miles.
Troopers said they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A driver is recovering after being pulled from his car that crashed and caught fire Sunday.
The Highway Patrol said the wreck happened about 5:40 p.m. Sunday about a half mile east of Weyerhaeuser Road on Gum Swamp Road near Ayden in Pitt County.
Officials said the driver was heading east when he went off the road to the right, hitting a ditch then the culvert of a driveway before overturning and catching fire.
Troopers said a person nearby pulled the driver from the burning vehicle.
Officials said the man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The Highway Patrol has not released the driver's name, but we will have an update as soon as we receive more information.
Troopers say the accident happened around 5:40 p.m. Sunday on Gum Swamp Road about a half mile east of Weyerhaeuser Road in Pitt County.
Officials say it appears the driver ran off the road to the right, hit a ditch then a driveway culvert before overturning and catching fire.
Troopers say that the driver was pulled from the vehicle by someone nearby.
The investigating trooper says that he was heading to the hospital to check on the victim and would have an update at a later time.
Pitt County 911 operators say that emergency crews were dispatched to a rollover crash with a possible ejection.
Details were few, but communicators say it happened on Gum Swamp Road just after 5:30 p.m.
There were reports the vehicle was on fire following the crash.
Operators had no information on injuries.
