PGV Airport Will Use $3.5 Million Grant For Runway Expansion Project

The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a $3.5 million grant to the Pitt-Greenville Airport. Airport Director Jerry Vickers says the grant money will help the airport prepare for a significant expansion of its runway.

The money will cover the costs of re-routing underground utility and water lines around the planned expansion. Airport officials say they also plan to buy easements around the property and remove trees that have grown too tall.

The 670 foot runway addition is required to meet new f-a-a runway standards.

"It's really a safety project. There's not an aircraft out there in the system that the extension will allow us to land here that can't land here today."

The utility work should be completed by this winter and the runway expansion is set for next spring.
