NEW INFO: One Dead, Another Injured In Craven County Accident

Troopers say a New Bern man died in an accident Monday night that closed down a road for several hours.

It happened on Highway 43 near New Bern around 8:30 p.m.

Killed was 20-year-old Quanshae Gardner who was headed south on the highway.

The Highway Patrol says Gardner's car crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming car, driven by Teresa Coltrain of Vanceboro.

Gardner's vehicle went off the road and flipped over. He died at the scene.

The 51-year-old Coltrain was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center and later released.

One person was killed in a head-on crash in Craven County Monday night.

It happened on Highway 43 near New Bern around 8:30, closing the road between Ipock Lane and Stephenson Road for several hours.

West of New Bern Fire Chief Rodney Bell said NC Highway Patrol is investigating and there is no cause for the accident at this time.

He also says it's not known which driver was at fault. No names have been released.
