Man Charged With DWI After Highway 17 Accident

A man has been charged with DWI after troopers say his SUV flipped on U.S. 17 this morning, shutting down part of the four lane highway.

Jimmie Boyd III of New Bern has been charged with DWI and failure to maintain lane control.

Rescue crews were called to the Bridgeton side of the river around 9:20 a.m.

Troopers say an SUV with a small trailer went off the left side of the road, over-corrected and then struck a guardrail on the opposite side of the highway. The SUV flipped over on its side and the trailer ended up in the median.

The 32-year-old Boyd received minor injuries and was treated and released from CarolinaEast Medical Center, according to the Highway Patrol.
