Nutrition Labels Getting A Major Makeover

(NBC News) For the first time in 20 years, big changes may be ahead for the nutrition labels millions of Americans have come to count on.

About 700,000 products Americans buy everyday come with nutrition labels, but the Food and Drug Administration says the labels don't always tell the whole story, due in part to unrealistic serving sizes.

The newly proposed labels base calories on servings people actually eat, identify added sugars,
measure nutrients like potassium and Vitamin D and revise daily values for sodium and fiber.
