North Pitt student charged with sexual battery involving other student on campus

A high school student has been charged with the sexual battery of another student at a Pitt County high school.

Deputies say back on March 3rd they took the report of a sexual assault from a student at North Pitt High School. A school resource officer was told the assault happened on the school's campus.

On Friday deputies arrested Octavio Alonso, 18 of Greenville. He is charged with one count of sexual battery, one count of indecent exposure, and one count of attempted second degree sexual offense.

The sheriff's office is not releasing any more information about the crime.

Alonso, who is a senior at the school, is jailed on a $200,000 bond.

Pitt County Schools released the following statement after his arrest:

"After learning about the report of a sexual assault, school administrators worked with the school resource officer and sheriff's department to aid their investigation. Student safety is always our top priority in Pitt County, and there is no place in our schools for anything that might impact it."
