North Carolina Woman Settles $20M Case Over Ex-Husband's Affair

The ex-wife of a former minor league baseball team owner has settled her $20 million lawsuit against the woman she accused of wrecking their marriage, agreeing to less than $110,000.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports (http://bit.ly/ZqRVHb ) that Veronica Filipowski had sued Melissa Oliver under the alienation-of-affection law.

Oliver's attorney, John Vermitsky, said Friday the sides settled for $107,500 before a judge could render a verdict in the non-jury trial.

Oliver had filed complaints in state and federal courts, challenging North Carolina's alienation-of-affection law on privacy grounds. The state Court of Appeals ruled against her earlier this year.

According to Filipowski's lawsuit, she discovered the affair in October 2006 after Oliver left a voicemail for Andrew "Flip" Filipowski, the owner of an investment firm and former owner of the Winston-Salem Dash.
