Some were concerned there was a lockdown at ECU, but university officials report it was only a test Friday morning.
We're told authorities on campus were performing a mandatory test. ECU says an operator inadvertently sent out live the message of a violent intruder and a lockdown.
Students say the alert sounded in classrooms alert, and instructors told them it was a lockdown.
This is the second time this year that the university's alert system sent out a lockdown alert by mistake.
On June 17th, a police operator practicing on the ECU Alert system mistakenly tweeted that an armed intruder was in the Brewster Building and that the campus was on lockdown. University police say they recognized the error and tweeted a correction about an hour later.
In that case the alert was only sent out on Twitter.
