Newport Police say they've arrested a suspect for the October 30th armed robbery of Askar's tobacco shop.

Police say Kristoff Lewis was a frequent customer of the business and has been back to the store several times since the robbery.

Police identified Lewis Tuesday morning and arrested him without incident.

Lewis has previous convictions in Havelock and Pitt County.

The 27-year-old is being held in the Carteret County jail on $100,000 bond

Police said a robber wielding two handguns took all of 30 seconds to rob a store at gunpoint and get away.

Newport police said at 9:25 p.m., a man came into the Askar's Tobacco Shop on Highway 70 East with two small caliber handguns drawn.

The robber demanded cash from the store clerk, then took off running into a wooded area.

Police say no one was hurt during the hold up.

Newport police said despite their search, and assistance from a canine tracker from the Morehead City Police Department, they could not find the gunman.

Police are now looking for a black man who stands about 5-foot-6-inches tall. He was wearing a black hoodie, jeans, and dark shoes at the time of the robbery.
