New Bern's Middle Street Named Among Nation's Best

Its name might be Middle, but Middle Street in New Bern is near the top of the list of great streets in the U.S. The American Planning Association designated Middle Street as one of 10 Great Streets for 2010 under the organization's Great Places in America program.

"Middle Street is the essence of what small town America is all about, and you immediately feel that as you walk past restaurants, local shops and residences," said First Ward Alderman Sabrina Bengel. "It is the heart of this Historic City that has seen the birth of Pepsi Cola (256 Middle), received a President (First Baptist 239 Middle) and where five North Carolina Governors worshipped (Christ Church 300 Middle)."

Middle Street is the first "Great Places" designation in North Carolina.
