Walmart shoppers looking for more convenience in Grantsboro and Oriental are in luck: Walmart is looking to expand in those areas.
There was already talk of a 12,000 square foot store in Oriental along Highway 55. Walmart is also looking to build a 70,000 square foot facility in Grantsboro.
However, some residents in Oriental are not happy with the plans for the store to go up on the outskirts of town on Highway 55, and they are planning to protest at a special town council meeting set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Walmart spokesman Bill Wertz told the New Bern Sun Journal that the Oriental store will not have a pharmacy, a point of contention for locals who wanted to be sure the big name store did not hurt local businesses.
Wertz added that nearly 100 jobs come along with the two store openings, some part-time and some full-time.
