A project to prevent constant flooding after heavy rainfall is underway in New Bern.

The project engineer says two new pumps will reduce flooding during regular to heavy in the Duffyfield area, but there is nothing that can be done when hurricanes or tropical storms hit the downtown area neighborhood.

Work is almost complete off Biddle street. Two new pumps have been added to the stormwater pond expansion project and can pump 10 times the amount of water that the old pump could.

The cost of the project is $11,000.
