New Greenville Businesses Will Create Hundreds Of Jobs In 2013

The new year will bring some new opportunities for shoppers and job seekers in Greenville. Construction at the Walmart on East 10th Street continues as walls for the supercenter are already going up. The center will be an anchor for other retail stores and a McDonalds restaurant slated to open mid 2013. Across town, the Veterans Administration will have their new outpatient clinic open in early 2014, but they're already preparing to hire 300 workers. A Radisson Hotel by Marriott is also being built in front of the clinic. Economic developers say after a steep drop off of new businesses in Greenville, they're starting to see more companies planning to make Greenville home.

"Traditionally for the past two decades, it's been one of the fastest growing cities in NC. We slowed down like everyone else in the state, but we would expect to rejoin the growth, or get back in our place as the fastest growing jurisdiction in the state," said Economic Development Manager Carl Rees.

City economic developers say they're next plan is creating a brand for Greenville. A marketing company is slated to talk to residents and East Carolina University students in order to come up with a marketing brand that will set the city apart from others in the state.
