New Clerk Foils Robbery; Can't Open Cash Register

A clerk who deputies say didn't know how to open the cash register stopped an armed robbery last night.

Jones County deputies say the attempted robbery happened at the Mallard Food Shop on Highway 70 and Wyse Fork Road around 10:50 p.m.

Two black men came into the store, wearing all black clothing, masks and sunglasses. One of the men pointed a small caliber handgun at the clerk and demanded money. But the clerk was new on the job and had difficulty opening the register.

Deputies say after being in the store for about two minutes the two men ran away without any cash.

Anyone with information on this robbery should call the Jones County Sheriff's Office at 252-448-7091.
