New Bern Could Get New Walmart 2 Miles From Current Store

Walmart is looking to continue its expansion in eastern Carolina with another store nearly two miles from the current location in New Bern.

The New Bern Sun Journal reports Walmart is looking to build a smaller scale, neighborhood market store along Neuse Boulevard near Colony Drive.

The new proposed build site is less than two miles from the current Walmart on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Walmart has to request a special permit for the location because they plan to use more than two acres, according to reports.

In mid-September, some Pamlico County residents were fired up and ready to protest the plans for two Walmart stores in their county.

Two facilities are expected in Pamlico County: one in Oriental and a 70,000 square foot store in Grantsboro.

The New Bern Board of Adjustment is set to discuss the proposal at their Monday night meeting, according to the paper.
