As the sun reflected in the Trent River, children of all ages circled around on the water for a somber goodbye to their friend Thursday.
"It was just beautiful," said New Bernian Robyn Hawkins-Johnston. "They did this themselves- kids of all ages, for their friend."
The paddle out ended with Tanner Webb's friends in a prayer-circle, tossing flowers into the middle in his memory.
On Friday, the Chick-fil-A in New Bern is hosting a wiffle ball game in remembrance of Tanner.
The restaurant is encouraging attendees to wear baseball uniforms or Carolina Blue to the event.
Chick-fil-A will be donating a portion of its sales to benefit the community in the 15-year-old's name.
The game will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the large grassy lot next to Chick-fil-A on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in New Bern.
A memorial service will be held on a high school baseball field at 10 a.m. for a teen who died in a boating accident on Monday.
The Coast Guard said the teen was not wearing a life jacket when he fell off a boat into the Trent River Monday afternoon.
