Neuse River In Kinston Should Start Receding Soon

Some waterways in the east that have been steadily been going up are about to start receding.

The Neuse River in Kinston is expected to crest Wednesday night at 2 and a half feet above flood stage.

The river has overflowed its banks at the Neuseway Nature Center but hasn't caused any damage yet.

The National Weather Service says the park should be OK if the flood level stays under 17 feet.

The Tar River in Greenville has overflowed it banks as well at the Town Common.

The boat launch at the park is submerged and the dock railings were just barely visible Wednesday afternoon. Parts of the parking area had to be closed.

Despite all of that, the river actually remains a full foot and a half below flood stage, and no damage has been done to the Town Common park area.
