Police in one Eastern Carolina city are warning residents not to leave valuables in their vehicles after a rash of car break-ins.
Elizabeth City police say over the past couple of weeks close to 40 vehicles have been broken into. Some of the vehicles were simply left unlocked.
Police say it appears two groups of people are breaking into the vehicles on Riverside, Main and Church streets, as well as the Sawyer Town areas. So cell phones, GPS devices, laptops and loose money has been taken.
Police are asking residents to be more aware of suspicious vehicles, those on bicycles and on foot in their neighborhoods. Officers say they continue to review video surveillance and following up on leads, but so far no arrests have been made.
