Nature Preserve, Aviation Tribute Planned For Havelock

By  |

Preservation efforts in Havelock were celebrated Tuesday night at an event combining the area's nature and aviation heritage at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center. The city revealed its partnership between the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust and the Eastern Carolina Aviation Heritage Foundation.

The two are teaming up to not only create a public nature preserve along Slocum Creek, but also celebrate the aviation heritage in Havelock.

We spoke with the N.C. Coastal Land Trust's Executive Director Camila Herlevich about the movement.

"This is a land conservation project which protects water quality in Slocum Creek, public access for the citizens of Havelock, and just a host of conservation values which is why the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust is involved. So it's a win-win for the entire community," said Herlevich.

The organizations say the vision is to unite nature, recreation, history, and education.
