Nationally Known Criminal Profiler Stresses Education At BCCC

A nationally known criminal profiler who accurately profiled the Washington, D.C. sniper case and predicted where a serial killer in Baton Rouge would strike next, was in Beaufort County Tuesday to deliver an important message.

Doctor Maurice Godwin told a crowd at Beaufort County Community College that he owes it all to his education, which started right here in North Carolina.

Godwin graduated from Vance-Granville Community College in Warren County back in 1985 with an associate degree in criminal justice technology. He became a police officer with the nearby Oxford Police Department, then earned a bachelor's, master's, and finally a PHD.

Godwin says he enjoys sharing his experience on community college campuses because that's how he got started.

Godwin has been teaching 15-years and is currently an adjunct professor at Campbell University at Fort Bragg.
