National Community Health Center Week Brings Out A Large Crowd In Kinston

A number of organizations filled the Kinston Community Health Center to provide help information about area health services for those in need.

Members of the Brody School of Medicine were giving out information about communicable diseases and offered free testing. The American Red Cross and other outreach groups were there to show their support.

Carla Pellerin, CEO of the Kinston Community Health Center stressed how important it is for people to know there is affordable health care. "Community health services are so important because we are the safety net we allow people from all walks of life, including those who have insurance and those who don’t have insurance to have a place to go,” said Pellerin. “When you come to our center if you are uninsured you can get a slide scale discount so we slide your fee based on your ability to pay."

There are 141 community health care sites across the state.
