NC Teacher Charged With Assault Of Autistic Students

A Cumberland County teacher faces charges that she assaulted two autistic students.

The sheriff's office said in a news release that 57-year-old Doris Holloway of Fayetteville was charged Friday with two counts of assault on a handicapped person. She teaches kindergarten, first- and second-grade students at Glendale Acres Elementary School.

The sheriff's office says video from May 7 shows a 7-year-old boy being grabbed by the front of his shirt, lifted off his feet and yanked into the classroom from the hall. Officers say another video from the same day shows the arm of a 9-year-old being twisted as he's walked to a classroom.

A woman who confirmed she's Doris Holloway hung up when an Associated Press reporter identified herself Saturday.

Holloway's first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 10.
