UPDATE: Man In Martin County Airlifted Following Sunday Night Wreck, 2nd Vehicle Hits Debris

A driver had to be airlifted to Vidant Medical Center following a serious accident in Martin County, Saturday night.

Trooper Stone with the Highway Patrol says around 8:27 p.m. a man was driving a GMC Yukon on NC Highway 11 between NC-142 and Council Road when he went left of center, off the road and collided with a tree. The trooper says the vehicle would hit several more trees before coming to rest back on Highway 11.

We’re told the driver was pinned in the vehicle for quite some time before EMS was alerted. His condition after being airlifted to Vidant is unknown at this time.

Trooper Stone says that the accident would cause another accident, when a driver hit debris from the Yukon, including a tire rim and axel. That driver would be taken to Martin General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the victims were not available at this time.

The accident shut down Highway 11 in both directions for around 2 hours Saturday night.
