Officials at North Carolina's Division of Motor Vehicles are considering changes, some designed to reduce wait times at license offices.
WFAE reported (http://bit.ly/1eBxGN2) the average wait time is 20 minutes to 50 minutes. To shorten the wait time, the DMV proposes to no longer require some drivers to take the parts of the driver's license exams.
For example, those with a valid driver's license from another state wouldn't have to take the written test or the road test. The primary exception to the road test would be for those with poor driving records.
DMV spokeswoman Marge Howell the agency is trying to be in line with other states' requirements while also reducing the wait times.
Howell says the changes could be in place by May 1.
