NC Bill Would Extend Waiting Period For Divorce

Couples who want to split in North Carolina could have a to wait two years before they file for divorce.

Republican Senator Austin Allran of Alexander and Catawba Counties proposed changes to amend the "Healthy Marriage Act."

Right now couples are required to wait a year before they can be legally divorced, but the bill ups that to two years.

The bill would also require couples to complete counseling, on conflict resolution, communication, and the impact of divorce on children.
