Mother, Daughter Indicted In Death Of Elderly Relative

A mother and daughter have been indicted by a grand jury for their part in the death of their elderly aunt.

A Carteret County grand jury indicted Rhonda Hagan with murder, second degree arson, first degree kidnapping, larceny from the person and conceal/fail to report a death. Her mother, Phyllis Williams, was indicted for accessory after the fact of murder, accessory after the fact of second degree arson, conceal/fail to report a death, and obstruction of justice.

Deputies say Hagan murdered her great-aunt, Goldie Hall, back in 2012 and then burned her home. The 90-year-old woman's body was found a week later outside of Newport. Authorities said the woman was killed over a money dispute, and the autopsy said she died from blunt force trauma.

The two will appear in Superior Court on February 17th.
