Mother & Daughter Charged As Accessories In Fatal Beaufort County Hit & Run

A mother and her daughter are now charged as accessories to a fatal hit and run after investigators say they hid a teenager accused in the wreck in a car trunk to elude troopers. That teen is the woman's son and the girl's brother.

Cynthia Ferguson, 42-years-old, and 20-year-old Danielle Thorp of Chocowinity are accused of hiding 18-year old Stephen Thorp after a fatal crash on West Barr Road in Beaufort County July 6th.

Troopers say they were returning home from a party and they believe alcohol played a factor in the fatal wreck.

The Highway Patrol says the women hid Stephen in the trunk of their car and took him to a friend's home on Highway 43 in Pitt County.

He was found hiding in the woods 13 hours later near that home.

Stephen Thorp is charged with driving the car that killed 23-year-old Marquise Brewer who was visiting from Louisiana.

Ferguson has a February 27th court date.

Danielle Thorp will be in court Tuesday morning.
