Meeting On Mega Homes In North Topsail Beach

A local town has made a decision on a few proposals that would put restrictions on building big beach houses.

The North Topsail Beach Board of Aldermen held a public hearing Thursday regarding construction of mega beach houses.

After considering public comments, the board adopted a few amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance.

The town will require a Special Use Permit for single-family developments larger than 8 bedrooms and 5,000 heated square feet. Duplex developments exceeding 10 bedrooms, 5 bedrooms per unit, and 5,000 heated square feet will also require that permit.

The hearing followed the vote against a moratorium on mega homes in North Topsail Beach made in May.
