McCrory Declares Disaster For Damage From Sandy

Gov. Pat McCrory has signed an executive order declaring a state of disaster for the town of Kitty Hawk for damage it suffered when Hurricane Sandy skirted the North Carolina coast last fall.

The declaration allows communities impacted by the storm to see state funds to recover money spent to respond to the storm or begin recovery efforts.

A statement from the governor's office said Kitty Hawk would get financial assistance from the state to reimburse state officials for emergency operations and debris removal.

State funds will cover 75 percent of costs, while local funds will handle the balance.

The Category 1 hurricane brought light rain, winds and flooding to the North Carolina coast in late October.
