UPDATE: Man Arrested In Wilson County Double Homicide

UPDATE: Wilson County Homicide Victims Identified

Man, Woman Found Dead Inside Wilson County Home

An arrest has been made in the double homicide investigation in Wilson County. A sheriff's office spokeswoman says the suspect was arrested Tuesday night.

At a news conference this afternoon, Sheriff Calvin Woodard, Jr. said Verna Lee Farmer has been charged with two counts of first degree murder.

The Wilson County Sheriff's Office says 61-year-old John Little and 42-year-old Charlene Jones were found dead Monday in Little's house.

Deputies say Jones' family called 911 Monday after the woman hadn't been seen in several days. Woodard says there were signs of a struggle. Through interviews they learned Farmer was involved, and that the suspect and Jones at one time had a strong friendship.

The sheriff said Farmer made investigators aware that he was involved in the double homicide. He said they are still awaiting to hear from the Medical Examiner's Office on a time of death, but he believes it is one or two days, based on the last time the woman talked to her family.

Woodard says the murder weapon, a gun, was found in a semi-open area within two miles of the crime scene.

The 45-year-old Farmer has a criminal record dating back to 1990. He was last given probation for a 2000 drug conviction. Other convictions include assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and drunk driving.

Farmer has already been before a judge and is being held with no bond. Last year Wilson County only had one homicide.
