Man Facing DWI After Thursday Crash

State troopers say a man who was convicted less than a year ago for drunk driving will be charged again after a serious accident in Duplin County.

Troopers say Edgar Cruz was driving drunk when he ran off Tram Road Thursday afternoon around 2:00 p.m. Cruz's vehicle went airborne, hit a pine tree and flipped multiple times.

The man's arm was smashed, according to troopers, while he and a passenger were taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Cruz will be charged with DWI, careless and reckless driving and speeding. The Highway Patrol says there were multiple beer cans in the man's vehicle.

The same trooper who investigated Thursday's crash arrested Cruz in his previous DWI conviction.
