Man Shot In Kinston Following Holdup

Police in the east are investigating a shooting early Tuesday morning.

Kinston police say around 4:53 a.m. they got a call for shots fired at 608 Nelson Street. When they got there, they found 22-year-old Jarion Jones with a gunshot wound to his torso.

Jones told officers he was approached by two men who demanded money. After being shot, Jones told police that the two men left in a silver van.

Jones was taken to Vidant Medical Center for treatment where his family says he's undergoing surgery.

Relatives say just last month Jones' father, a newspaper carrier for the Kinston Free Press, was killed in a traffic accident in neighboring Jones County.
