A former Pitt Community College student was sentenced for a deadly hit and run in 2011 on East 5th Street in Greenville that killed one of his passengers and injured three others.
Omar Chahid pleaded guilty Wednesday to 1count of felony hit and run and 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was sentenced to 18- 31 months in prison which will be followed by 6 months under house arrest. 22 year old Taylor Weiss was killed in the crash. His mother spoke with us about the sentencing.
"I am thrilled that he cannot drive for 24 months once he's out. I am thrilled that he can have drug and alcohol testing at any time, that he has to go for treatment. I want redemption," said Alisa Weiss
Chahid has already served 13 months in prison, which will be subtracted from his sentence. He was initially charged with D.W.I., but the D.A. says there was no clear cut evidence to show that he was under the influence of any substances.
