POLICE: Marine Made Up Bank Parking Lot Robbery

A Camp Lejeune Marine who told police he was robbed in a bank parking lot has now been charged with making up crime.

Lance Corporal John McWhorter has been charged by Jacksonville police with filing a false police report.

Police say the 22-year-old Marine told them two men robbed him at gunpoint Sunday evening in the parking lot of the Bank of America on Country Club Road. Police say their investigation shows the armed robbery never occurred.

“False police reports waste taxpayer money and police department resources and will be prosecuted by the Jacksonville Police Department” said Lieutenant Jason Bettis.

The Marine Corps says McWhorter is a refrigeration mechanic with Combat Logistics Battalion 6, 2nd Marine Logistics Group.
