A New Bern man will spend the next 20 to 25 years in prison after his guilty plea for killing another man.
Angelo Whitehurst pled guilty to second degree murder and attempted armed robbery, along with other crimes on Monday.
Killed in the February 1st, 2011 shooting outside Vanceboro was Arvey Bartlett, Jr.
District Attorney Scott Thomas says Whitehurst started a confrontation with Bartlett and tried to rob him of money and marijuana. The two changed gunfire, with both being hit.
The 18-year-old Bartlett died at the scene after a bullet pierced his heart and lung, according to Thomas.
A second man, Antavious Stancil, pled guilty in May to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and was sentenced to six to eight years in prison.
