Man Killed When Truck Plunges Off Bridge To Highway Below

A 30 year old man was killed when his truck plunged off a bridge over another highway Sunday afternoon in Wayne County.

First Sergeant Jerry Burton with the Highway Patrol says Craig Moore of Shallotte died in the wreck. Burton says Moore was headed south on US-117 just outside of Mount Olive, when he ran off the road to the right, plowing through the bridge guardrail and onto Highway 55 below. The enclosed trailer Moore's truck was pulling overturned but stayed on US-117.

Moore was the only in the truck. No other vehicles were hit by the trailer on US-117 or the truck falling onto Highway 55.

First Sergeant Burton says the wreck is still under investigation. "The early indication is he may have fallen asleep," Burton said.

The DOT has put up a temporary fix to the broken guardrail, but Burton says future repairs are needed.
