Duplin Fatal Crash Among Three Statewide Over New Year's Holiday

Troopers say a fatal wreck in Duplin County was one of three which occurred over the New Year's holiday weekend. Two of those crashes involved alcohol,

The Highway Patrol says 27-year-old Jamie Crespo-Ambrosio of Turkey was killed in a one-car wreck in Magnolia around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Troopers say the man lost control while driving an estimated 80 miles per hour on Beasley Mill Road near Church Road in Magnolia. The vehicle hit a ditch, several trees and a light pole.

The Highway Patrol says alcohol was involved in the crash.

Three people were killed in a head-on crash in Buncombe County New Years Day. Troopers say a vehicle went left of center and struck an oncoming tractor trailer on Highway 191. Troopers say speed was a contributing factor in that crash.

The other New Year's fatality was in Robeson County. In that accident, between an ATV and a vehicle, troopers say alcohol was involved. The driver of the ATV was killed when struck from behind by the vehicle on Pleasant Road in Fairmont.
