Person Killed In Shootout With Halifax County Deputies

A suspect is dead during a shootout after deputies in Halifax County were trying to serve a drug warrant this morning.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp says it happened around 8:00 a.m. at a trailer park on Straight Road, south of Roanoke Rapids.

He says Drug Agent Anzell Harris and detective Investigator Herbert Williams shot the suspect after they were shot at. Neither deputy was injured.

Tripp says the State Bureau of Investigation is en route to assist with the deputy involved shooting. Tripp is not yet releasing the name of the dead person.
