A man in Wayne County was killed as he was getting dropped off at home by a designated driver when another car crashed into the car he had just gotten out of.
The Highway Patrol says a car was dropping off a man on Rosewood Road, about three miles south of Goldsboro around 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Troopers say the car pulled up alongside the driveway to let the passenger out of the car. When the man walked around to thank his designated driver, another car crashed into the vehicle. The man on the road was killed right in front of his home.
The name of the man killed was not available when we spoke to the Highway Patrol, but we expect to be able to update you with that information soon.
The woman driving the car that crashed into the parked car is not currently facing charges; the fatal crash remains under investigation. A meeting is planned between the investigating trooper at the district attorney on Wednesday.
The Highway Patrol says the man killed in Wayne County was one of 16 killed in North Carolina during the Memorial Day Weekend. No other fatal crashes were reported by troopers in Eastern Carolina. Last Memorial Day Weekend, the Highway Patrol investigated 14 deaths.
