A man has been arrested for running over another man who deputies say is dating his estranged wife.
Daniel Kepler of Beaufort has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Carteret County deputies say it happened just before 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Zingo Convenient Store at Highway 101 and Laurel Drive, outside of Beaufort.
James Lupton of Harkers Island has major leg injuries, and is in stable condition at Vidant Medical Center.
Deputies say Kepler admitted to running over Lupton because the man is now dating Kepler's wife. The couple is separated, according to deputies.
Kepler was jailed on a $75,000 bond.
According to the Town of Beaufort Fire Department, one man was hospitalized when he was hit by a vehicle Saturday.
Officials say the incident happened close to 7 o'clock in the evening on Highway 101 and Laurel Rd. in Beaufort.
According to fire officials, the Carteret County Sheriff's office is handling the case.
The man was taken to Carteret General hospital.
Officials did not release his name. When asked about the man's condition, they said he was able to speak.
