Man Given Life Sentence For High School Student's Murder

There's been a guilty verdict in the case of a teenager who was kidnapped off a Goldsboro street, and found dead several weeks later.

A jury on Monday found Leonard Joyner guilty of first degree murder and first degree kidnapping. The 23-year-old was sentenced to life in prison without parole, according to a court clerk.

16-year-old Kennedy McLaurin Jr. was kidnapped in September 2012 near his Goldsboro home. An autopsy says the high school student was shot twice in the chest, beaten with a shovel, with his body burned and then buried.

Three others in the case pleaded guilty to second degree murder and second degree kidnapping in the case and have yet to be sentenced.
