Man Gets 14-1/2 Years For Death Of Woman In DWI Accident

A guilty plea in court this morning for a man accused of killing a Maysville woman nearly two years ago in Onslow County.

Jacob Beitz of Hamstead was originally facing 18 different charges after the November 2011 accident in Holly Ridge. Killed was 19-year-old Jacinta Fisher who was a backseat passenger in a vehicle that Beitz struck on Highway 17.

Beitz this morning pleaded guilty to second degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and DWI. The other charges will be dropped.

A dozen members of Fisher's family were in the courtroom for the plea. The man said he was sorry to the family and would give his life to change what happened.

Beitz was sentenced to 14-1/2 years in prison, as well as paying $11,000 to the woman's family for funeral expenses.
